Daily budget calculator
How much can I spend per day until payday?
Put in what you have, what is still due and when you are paid. You get one number per day, worked out with the same rule the Ledgerly app uses.
How it works
Money that is free, divided by the days you have.
(money you have − bills − savings) ÷ days until payday
Rounded down, never below zero. See every part of the formula explained
Why bills come off first
If rent has not gone out yet, it is still in your balance. Divide the balance by the days left and the answer includes money that is already spoken for. With the example above, that would be $117.88 a day instead of $31.77.
Why a daily budget, not a monthly one
A monthly total tells you how it went once the month is over. A daily number changes as you spend. Spend less today and tomorrow's number goes up. Spend more and it goes down. Move the slider to see it.
Why it rounds down
A number that rounds up tells you to overspend by a cent, every day. Rounded down, the last day of the period gets what is left instead.
Questions
About the calculator
What should I count as money I have?
What is in the accounts you spend from today: your current account, cash, and a card balance if you treat it as spending money. Leave savings out unless you plan to spend them.
What if my income is irregular?
Use the next day you are sure money comes in. If that day moves, change it. The number adjusts to the days actually left.
What if the result is zero?
Your bills and savings take more than you have until payday. The calculator does not go below zero. Lower the amount to set aside, or look at which bill can wait.
Is anything I type here sent anywhere?
The sum is worked out in your browser as you type. There is no account and nothing to submit.
How is this different from the Ledgerly app?
The calculator works from numbers you type each time. The app works from what you record as you spend, so the number is ready when you open it and changes after every spend.
